A truck driver who was asleep in his tractor-trailer cut his leg while escaping the burning vehicle at a Maryland truck stop early Tuesday.
The truck caught fire just before 2 a.m. at Love's Travel Stop, north of Hagerstown, the Herald-Mail reports. Witnesses who saw the flames were able to wake up the driver and help him get out of the truck, and he was taken to a local hospital wtih only "a minor cut on his leg," a Maugansville Goodwill/Volunteer Fire Company firefighter told the news outlet.
Twenty firefighters responded to the blaze, and it took nearly 30 minutes to get the fire under control. Although the truck was parked among other rigs at the travel stop, no other vehicles were damaged.
According to the Herald-Mail, a refrigeration unit between the cab and trailer was the source of the blaze, and the cause was determined to be accidental. The estimated damage to the vehicle and its contents was $60,000, the news outlet added.
